Printmaking week at Cascada Studio in Spain

Helen inking up her plate
Helen Wollstencroft and Margaret King came to do a week of printmaking with me, at
Cascada Studio in lovely Mijas. It turned out to be true August weather, with really good temperatures during the day, but no complaints from these two, rather the opposite, they seemed to enjoy every minute of the sun!
Choosing the favorite
In the studio, the same, a hugely positive outlook on life and real zest for creating art. Helen came with some experience of printmaking that she made good use of, creating a lovely lino reduction of a scene from Wales, including atomic sheep and all ;o)
Working on a scene from Wales
I was very impressed, with the doing it all myself attitude, all drawing done freehand, yes, you might think that is the way it should be, but a lot of the time it is not, more and more people print out and transfer on the inkjet!
assembling the lino plate on the press
Doing a small assembly plate like Helen's is very fiddly work, and takes patience, but it is also great fun as the plate can then be printed in a variety of different ways.
inking up a multicolor etching plate
Margaret King, had never tried printmaking before, but in my opinion, is a natural, she took to it like a duck to water, and produced not only 2 really nice lino plates, but also a copper etching, overprinted with a aluminium drypoint in multicolors, way to go, Margaret!!! Taking inspiration from Australian printmaker Ruth Burgess, Margaret produced a plate that actually is worthy of a pro, I am very impressed and also really happy that Margaret ending up looking for printmaking courses closer to home, it would be a great pity for her to not carry on with something she could so obviously be really good at!!
Choosing the favorite
Margarets plate was printed in a variety of colors, hard to pick a favorite, but we tried ;o)
a lot done in a week!
There were prints drying everywhere, as these 2 ladies were very productive,  as the course leader, I think I had as much fun as they did, a lovely relaxed week full of inventing printmaking again, I really hope they come back!
a production line!
Starting up a business you two???? Welcome back, Margaret and Helen! Love, Mariann

  1. Looks like a lot of fun, as well as hard work. The results look fantastic. I hope they come back to Cascada Studio too - talent too good to waste!
