Island living indeed.....

Just read through some of the blogs I follow, and "metamorphosis"
has such a wonderful post on island living. I live on a island..... Singapore is a tiny little island..... really, it is an island..... and it feels like one..... I have lived all my life on a continent, Europe, albeit right up at the edge.... (in gods country of course :o))))) Scandinavia..... but... edge or not, you knew, if you woke up one morning, and just had to... had to, get away... you could get in your car... and drive.... for ever..... maybe there is something about being an artist, or is it just me, that makes that feeling of freedom a necessity..... this is why I love coming home to Spain... love going to Australia, technically an island, but hey , can't beat'em for space,dude..... so at times living on an island makes me feel so hemmed in..... I have never really been able to produce any work that reflects living here, so I was so surprised when these last 2 weeks actually saw 2 paintings, that to me, clearly are from Singapore, come to life..... you could have knocked me over with a feather...... literally.... so now I don't even dare think about it, in case it disappears...... shhhhh...;o)

  1. That's a lovely painting, Mariann. I specially like the tree and those happy-looking fishes!
I wonder if that is you, sitting quietly on the island, looking out at us?

  2. Mariann, thanks so much for visiting and leaving your great comment! I don't know how I'd do on an island where I'd need a boat to get off. Here, we just drive 15 minutes, and we are on the mainland and can then drive for days! I guess it's all a matter of perspective!

I've been perusing your blog and just love your art! I'll be back often!! Hugs, Silke

  3. Ahhh.. maybe it is...... I did not think of that, this painting kind of just happened..... and no boat needed.... but you get to Malaysia, and it's a peninsula, and the driving is possible, but just not the same..... uhh. digging a hole here.... so had better stop
