Recipes for stories....

A new series of paintings called "Recipes", the first 2 "Noah's Ark" and
"The Refugees", are finished, 30" x 40", acrylic on canvas...... shown at Red Sea Gallery, Dempsey Road, Tanglin Village in Singapore.

Mariann Johansen-Ellis: "In this series, that I have called "Recipes", the image "spills" out of a painted aperture in the canvas, much like many times, something we tell, spills forth in a rather jumbled fashion, and yet, often, we are clearly understood, language is as complicated, or as simple, as the interpretation, so in an effort to interact with images instead of words, I feel, that as an artist, my function, in this series, is to furnish you with the ingredients for a narrative, at first glance the story might seem obvious, a story you have heard many times, but the ingredients taken apart, can also, be used by the viewer to create an untold number of new tales, the combinations limited only by your (the viewers)imagination. This way, there is always a renewal of the image/s, and language constantly changes the landscape of the painting,... at least that's the idea....."
